Well, we had so much fun on AMTRAK this summer, we decided to take the AUTO TRAIN over Christmas Break. The train runs from Sanford (Orlando), FL to Lorton (Washington D.C.), VA. The entire train trip was perfect. We promptly left at 4PM on 12/26 and arrived the following day at 9AM. Marissa and Erica had never experienced snow. When our train arrived in Lorton, they had to run outside and touch the (frozen) snow. Within a few minutes our truck was off the train and we were on our way. A little under 3 hours later we were at my brother's house in PA. The kids were dressed in winter clothes and went outside to make snow angels. The next day we went to Mount Carmel. Our stay in Mt. Carmel was a lot of fun. The kids couldn't believe how they had to constantly bundle up (the temperature was below 20 and it was often windy). We visited many relatives, walked around town, saw deer, slid down ice paths, and kept warm. We were fortunate to get hit by a small snowstorm, 4 inches. Marissa and Erica weren't sure if the snow would hurt as it fell from the sky. They were amazed how light it was. After our stay in Mt. Carmel, it was back to my brother's place for a few days and finally to Virginia. Marissa and Erica got to experience a nice wet snowfall and were able to make a small snowman and have a snowball fight. Special thanks to Joe, Becky, and Deb, for canvasing the neighborhood and getting all of those winter clothes. Marissa and Erica never realized they had so many relatives. It was great for them to see their Nona, their great uncles, Chet, Juney, Nick, Jackie, Al; their great Aunts, Ann, Linda, Shirley, Anna, Camille, and Charlotte; and their great-great aunt Christine as well as their cousins Melody, Adam, Michael, David, and espescially Allyson and the guinea pigs. Thanks Sally. I hope Randi doesn't miss Marissa too much (and gets a much deserved rest from Erica). |
